A BRIEF HISTORY:
Petersfield Choral Society was formed in 1903 to take part in the Petersfield Musical Festival, which began in 1901.
The first conductor was Miss Mabel Causton who remained until 1914. Stuart Wilson then conducted in 1920 and in 1921 Miss Causton took over again until 1925. R.G. Harwood was in charge from 1926 to 1930 and 1937 to 1941, with Miss Kathleen Merritt conducting from 1931 to 1936.
After the Second World War, T. Warden Lane took up the baton in 1945 and kept it until 1981 when he was succeeded by Judith Bailey who led the choir until 1993.
Our current conductor, Mark Dancer joined us in 1996.
At this time, the Choral Society amalgamated with the Thursday Singers and the combined choir, still called the Petersfield Choral Society, now sings in both the adult choral concerts at the Petersfield Musical Festival.
